Hi there! Welcome to my next story. Today I would like to tell you what AWS Well-Architected Framework is and how it can help your cloud. Thanks to the experience I’ve gathered, I know how important it is to create secure, efficient and cost-optimized infrastructures at the highest level, and that’s what this framework provides. It contains a collection of the best tips, principles and strategies for designing and maintaining cloud computing. In addition, it has a number of tips on how to evaluate designed solutions, among other things. All the principles contained in the AWS Well-Architected Framework contribute to creating an infrastructure that will dynamically respond to your needs. Among other things, this translates into the ability to scale resources.

Let me explain you what are the individual pillars of AWS Well-Architected.

According to AWS, a well-designed infrastructure, is based on the following 6 pillars:

- operational excellence — this is the ability to run and monitor systems and continuously improve support for the organization’s processes and procedures,

- security — advanced protection of information, systems and resources — otherwise, it is a proactive team of experts conducting quick and accurate expert assessments and implementing preventive and corrective actions,

- reliability — says that the system should be able to recover from disruptions to infrastructure or services. In addition, importantly, the infrastructure must provide dynamic acquisition of computing resources to meet demand and mitigate disruptions such as network problems or misconfigurations,

- operational efficiency — this pillar focuses on efficient use of resources. Key issues include, monitoring performance and making informed decisions to maintain performance as business needs evolve,

- cost optimization — effectively managing the cost sphere of cloud computing usage. This can be achieved, for example, by adopting cost models based on the amount of resources needed, measuring overall performance, or abandoning solutions that do not add value,

- sustainability — the last pillar involves reconciling environmental aspects in the development of the enterprise with the requirements of economic efficiency and the expectations of society.

Another issue that I want to tell you about is AWS Well-Architected Review.

As we well know, periodic reviews are extremely important for the devices or cars to maintain their proper efficiency and effectiveness. The same is true for the issue of ensuring the long-term effects and benefits of AWS, which is possible by performing regular reviews. An infrastructure review involves identifying areas for improvement. Through it, it is possible to gain extremely important knowledge, obtain measurements, and implement improvements to the customer’s infrastructure based on the company’s business and technical activities. The review itself is carried out using the AWS Well-Architected Tool in accordance with AWS procedures and using the knowledge and experience of experts.

The review allows the customer’s infrastructure to be verified against architectural best practices for the design of cloud solutions. The results of the infrastructure survey carried out are presented in a detailed report.

In such a report, areas for improvement are indicated, with reference to the pillars, and whose level of significance is marked as ‘high’ and ‘medium’. It is important that the report additionally includes detailed recommendations to be made to the existing infrastructure to make it more secure, efficient and cost-optimized. The compiled report, along with detailed suggestions and identification of sources of recommendations in AWS, will be presented and discussed by the solution architect leading the review, with the client during a dedicated meeting. The most important thing is that you fully decide whether the recommendations will be finally implemented.

This is all stages of AWS Well-Architected Review implementation:

1. The Solutions Architect’s initial interview with the customer.

2. Obtaining the necessary access to the environments.

3. the actual AWS Well-Architected review.

4. Solutions Architect’s in-depth interview with the customer.

5. Handing over the AWS Well-Architected report.

6. discussion of the report.

7. Discussion of recommendations.

8. Plan for implementation of recommendations.

Time for me to introduce you in detail what will you get with AWS Well-Architected:

■ increased safety — you will gain compliance with the most stringent requirements,

■ infrastructure reliability — you will have the ability to recover from disruptions and system failures,

■ time savings — you will implement newer and better solutions faster,

■ process optimization — implement improvements prepared by AWS experts,

■ cost reduction — reduce energy consumption by up to 80%,

■ countering hacking attacks — prevent technological risks before they occur.

I would like to boast, because my company has been authorized under the AWS Well Architected Review program to perform infrastructure reviews. As a result, if you use cloud computing and have us review and implement recommendations, we will help you apply for a $5,000 grant!

In order to obtain this grant, it is necessary to fulfill the terms and conditions of the program, which can be encapsulated in the three steps outlined below.

In summary, the AWS Well-Architected Framework will help you to review the existing or newly designed architecture in the AWS cloud computing. It will provide a set of AWS best practices for each of the aforementioned pillars, thus enabling the creation of a stable, efficient system and infrastructures, while optimizing costs.
